Kindle eBooks and managing a huge collection.

I have been a huge reader for as long as I can remember.   I can understand Henry Bemis from the Twilight Zone episode Time Enough at Last, one can never have enough books or time to read them.

I have always enjoyed my Kindles.  A couple months ago I joined a Facebook Group called Free Kindle Books! and quickly my eBook collection jumped from hundreds to thousands of books.   I have just under 9000 books at the moment.

I upgraded from my Paperwhite to an Oasis to have plenty of space to download my collection, I found that around the 6400th book the device wouldn’t download any more books.  Since then I have really tried to streamline my collection.  I removed over 3000 of the books so far.

I love Kindles but hate that there is not a real great way to segment my collection easily.  I have been thinking about throwing together a small utility to at least manage the collection when I have the device connected to USB.  The biggest thing to figure out is the data structure of the various .MOBI files and read the header information correctly.

I have been pseudo-coding some ideas for the utility.  Hopefully I can throw together at least a good way to export a list of the books I own with Title and Author if nothing else.

I do not play video games much these days.  Usually when I do it’s playing Injustice 2 or another fighting game with my daughter.  That said when I do play these days by myself it is usually a Roguelike game like ADOM, TOME4, DCSS, or CogMind.

I really have enjoyed playing Roguelike games more than pretty much any other type of game these days.  Between being turnbased and unforgiving they have a ton of replay value.

One of the things I have really been thinking about is writing my own Roguelike game.  Trying to decide if I want to do it with Unity 5 and C# or Python.  I have some ideas as to what I would like in it.

'nux Woes

We have been having problems with our Internet connection as well as the ISP saying we are using more data than we could have possibly done given our current bandwitdth (or lack thereof) woes.   I decided to replace one of my older machines Linux Mint install with Kali (instead of just live booting).

Unfortunately Kali is given me issues with the Wireless NIC not wanting to be detected.  The Live version works fine but the version off the the install will not see WLAN01.  I have tried everything to no avail.  Decided to blow away the install and try again, same results so I was going to put Arch on the machine instead but now I am having issues with getting the machines BIOS to accept USB boot.

If I can get around the boot issue I guess I am just going to go back to Mint on this particular machine or maybe Ubuntu.  I had considered CentOS or Slackware but decided against it on this particular machine.

Hello.  My name is Michael.  Welcome to my blog.  I have blogged off and on for many years now, however I often take a break from blogging and then start the blog all over again.   Today I decided to start it up again.   This blog will contain lots of geek post.  I will be blogging about various novels I am reading, programs I am writing, TV/Movies I am watching and games I am playing.  While I consider myself a Conservative Libertarian I will not be posting post about politics.   I am also a father of a beautiful daughter that I may blog about some as well.  At any rate if you would like to know more about me feel free to click on the About portion of the blog.  Thank you for visiting.
